Lena Headey plays the character Cersei Lannister in the HBO series "Game of Thrones" and while her character is a major part of the storyline she has been the focus of an immense amount of Internet conversation over a recent scene that took place between her and twin brother Jamie in front of the corpse of her dead son, King Joffrey.
In the scene she is raped by her twin brother with whom she has had an incestuous relationship but in her thoughts about the role she looks at the character as both rejecting and embracing her lover at the same time because of her need to feel something other than pain. She connected with her character's overwhelming sense of grief and the desire to feel something other than the emptiness that comes with the loss of a son.
She grasped the inner conflict of the character who knew it was not right what was taking place with Jamie in front of her dead son yet knew it was needed and wanted a release, a combination of lust and desperation.
Her ability to convey the different dimensions and emotions of her character and express them to the audience in such a manner that there is a conversation revolving around her character about not just the act that occurred with her twin brother but her character's needs is one of the reasons she is such a special actress.
She understands and respects the controversy caused by the scene and the 'messy' situation and accepts it completely. Very few actresses would be able to 'handle' the gamut of emotions created by playing this character and be able to connect with her so completely but Lena Headey did and that is one of the many reasons she is so loved by fans, entertainment insiders and the producers of the "Game of Thrones".
