Paraguayan athlete and model Leryn Franco has defended her decision to participate in the Javelin at the Pan American Games despite her illness. Leryn had been suffering from Influenza A and Strep in the build up to the event and it was unclear whether she would take part.
The illness caused Franco to lose three kilos, which affected her ability to get enough distance on her throws and she failed to get in the medals. It was even suggested by her doctor that she should not participate but Leryn insists that she was right to take part.
Unfortunately for Leryn Franco she only managed to throw the javelin 48.70m, which was way short of the winning throw of 58.01m by Deshaiser Alicia. Hopefully Leryn can rediscover her best form in time for the London 2012 Olympics.
