Li Na, the 2014 Australian Open singles winner, crushed the hearts of some of her fans when it was announced that she will not be playing in the International Premier Tennis League team competition that is scheduled to begin in November 2014. Li Na is one of the most popular athletes in Asia and her attendance at any tennis competition in Asia ensures huge television ratings and full attendance in the stands.
Unfortunately, her agent Max Eisenbud recently announced that the World's number two ranked women's tennis player will not be participating in the tournament as he does not think the team concept will work. Some tennis insiders think that the questions concerning whether the television revenue was in place to fund the salaries of the players such as Li Na and considering the fact that Li Na is without question one of the best paid athlete celebrities in Asia it is unlikely that Li Na would enter an event that could not meet her salary requirements or would be in jeopardy of not being able to do so
If Li Na had been able to participate in the International Premier Tennis League it would have given this tour instant credibility and star power because on the tennis mad continent of Asia there is one star at the top and her name is Li Na. However, even though Li Na will not be playing in this tournament at this time her fans should not discount the possibility that her LI Na may be discussed for this tournament in the future and she could still become part of this tennis league.
In the upcoming months Li Na will be returning to spotlight at the 2014 Paris Open where she has been selected by the betting bookmakers as one of the top four contenders to win the women's singles title. If Li Na wins the 2014 Paris Open there is no question that attempts to convince the most popular Asian tennis player in history to become part of the International Premier Tennis League will be revisited.
