Over the years we have seen a lot of actors playing the role of James Bond, with plenty more stars being linked to the role of 007. When talk turns to stars who we would have loved to have seen playing the role of James Bond but never did, there is one name that a lot of people would put at the top of their list and that is none other than Liam Neeson.
Well, as some of you might be aware of, Liam Neeson was actually offered the chance to take on the role of James Bond many years ago now but he declined the offer, disappointing a lot of fans with his decision. Well now, Liam has opened up about being touted as a potential James Bond and has revealed his reason for turning down the opportunity all those years ago.
Neeson explained, "I was heavily courted, let’s put it that way, and I’m sure some other actors were too. It was about 18 or 19 years ago and my wife-to-be said, ‘If you play James Bond we’re not getting married!’ And I had to take that on board, because I did want to marry her."
Other actors who where in the running to play James Bond around the same time as Liam Neeson were Sam Neill, Hugh Grant, Mel Gibson and Lambert Wilson, to name just a few. The role of James Bond eventually went to Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye and, in all fairness, Pierce did a great job as 007.
