Although 'The Poker House' was actually directed by Lori Petty, it's best known for launching Jennifer Lawrence's film career. However, it marked Lori's second directorial effort, and it certainly gained very strong reviews.
However, Lori has largely stuck to acting since then and hasn't directed anything else. She played two very small roles in 'Richard III' as the 'first murderer' and then the bartender in 'Last Call'.
She did guest star as Janice Burke on House M.D. from 2008 to 2009, and then starred on Prison Break as 'Daddy' in 2009. She did appear in Prison Break: The Final Break in 2009, and then guest starred as Sunshine in the TV series 'Cleaner' in 2009. Since then, her only acting role was opposite Ray Liotta in 'Chasing 3000' in 2010, in which she played the supporting character of Deputy Fryman.
One has to wonder why Lori's directing career didn't take off after 'Poker House', especially since it did wonders for Jennifer Lawrence's career, but maybe Lori's interest was always more in acting. Looking at her acting credits versus her directing credits, it certainly seems that way. Either way, we look forward to her return to directing, if she should decide to pursue that again in the future.
