While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been growing and improving year on year with every huge film that they release, there is one character that they have had a lot of difficulty with over the years. As you have probably guessed from the title of this piece, that character is none other than Bruce Banner and his alter-ego Hulk.
Since the turn of the Millennium we have already seen two separate Hulk movies but both films were ultimately considered flops, despite the fact that they both grossed a large amount of money at the box office. In 2003 Ang Lee brought us the movie Hulk, which starred Eric Bana and grossed $243m worldwide. However the movie was panned by fans and critics so, in 2008 Louis Leterrier brought us The Incredible Hulk, which starred Edward Norton and went on to make $254m worldwide.
Again though, the movie was panned and any plans to make a sequel were scrapped. However, Marvel finally seemed to get the character right in the huge movie The Avengers, with almost everyone being impressed with what they did with Hulk, as well as the performance of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. This has led to calls for a new Hulk standalone movie, which could finally see the character done right.
There have been a lot of rumours about a new Hulk standalone film over the past few years and it looks like the project is moving ever closer to becoming a reality. Lou Ferrigno voices the grunts and growls of Hulk in The Avengers movies and he has admitted that there are plans to bring a new Hulk solo film to the big screen, "Now because he saved the day, they're making another solo Hulk movie after the second Avengers comes out," explained Lou.
Considering the fact that we already have solo films for the likes of Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, with talk of a Black Widow movie being made, it makes perfect sense that we will see a new Hulk standalone movie at some point.
