Over the years we have had many fantastic Academy Awards nights, with some fantastic speeches and some shock winners, with a lot of talent on show in all the categories across the board. With that said, it is difficult to remember a year when all of the categories were this tight and it was almost impossible to split them, which is what has made the 2014 Oscars so exciting and interesting.
The night has been moving along at a steady pace and the Hollywood stars are out in force, with the red carpet showing us the best and worst dressed stars of the evening. However, Ellen DeGeneres has been doing a good job as the Oscars 2014 host and the awards are being dished out, with the latest award to be announced being the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Oscar.
As with most of the categories at this year's Academy Awards, the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Oscar has been a tough one to call, with all five of the talented actress putting in great performances and being deserving of the win. Unfortunately though there are always going to be four losers, as one actress takes home the Oscar and, this year the winner of the Best Actress in a Supporting Role is Lupita Nyong'o for her performance in the movie 12 Years a Slave.
This is the first Oscar that Lupita Nyong'o has won in her career and it is well deserved as she beat off stiff competition from Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle), Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), June Squibb (Nebraska), Julia Roberts (August: Osage County), and Lupita Nyong'o (12 Years a Slave).
During her speech, Lupita said, "Thank you to the Academy for this incredible recognition." She then went on to thank the real woman who she played in the film and tried to thank more before breaking down in tears. Nyong'o final went on to thank the usual, before again breaking down in tears.
Do you think the right person won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Oscar 2014?
