When Man of Steel was first conceived by David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan, they were probably hoping that it would be a success. That being said, I don't think anyone could have expected the hype surrounding the film, and how much the pent-up anticipation built to such a strong domestic opening.

However, after just three weekends at the box office, Man of Steel has already crossed the half a billion dollar mark at the international box office. With $500 million in the can already, and a strong chance at $800-900 million, the film's success and profit is all but assured.
Dan Fellman, an executive at Warner Brothers, released a statement saying, "This success for 'Man of Steel' is a great 75(th) birthday present for this iconic character. The film took Superman back to his roots for a new generation of moviegoers, who have once again embraced Krypton and Kansas' favorite son. The film's strong Cinemascore tells us that word of mouth should keep the 'Man of Steel' flying through the summer."

The sequel to Man of Steel is already underway, as is a potential Justice League film. 'Man of Steel' starred Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Diane Lane, and Ayelet Zurer.
