Manchester United have not been without their injury problems this season and they picked up yet another one last night, as Antonio Valencia had to be taken off with a hamstring problem. However, there was good news for the Old Trafford club, as returning players Phil Jones, Tom Cleverley and Ashley Young all made it through the 2-0 victory over Ajax without any trouble and Phil Jones has been discussing their comebacks.
Phil explained, "I’ve been out for three weeks so I’m not going to get full match fitness straight away but it’s good to get 90 minutes under my belt and hopefully, if I’m selected, I can do well in the next game. I’m delighted for Tom Cleverley. He’s a terrific talent. We missed him on the pitch while he was out. But I saw him every day in the gym so I know his attitude’s fantastic.”
Jones added, “He deserved to be out there tonight. Ashley's also terrific. He's come back from injury and done really well and I was pleased for him to get our first goal tonight." Manchester United will bring their 2-0 lead over Ajax back to Old Trafford for the second leg, which will take place on Thursday, February 23 and will kick off at 20:05 GMT.
