It has been reported that Manchester City are set to continue their extravagant spending with an audacious £60million offer for local rivals, Manchester United’s, star striker Wayne Rooney. While Manchester United have repeatedly stressed that Wayne Rooney is not for sale, the England International has stated that, if Sir Alex Ferguson does not invest in some world class players, he will be forced to consider his options.
There is no denying that Wayne Rooney is a world class player but his form has been inconsistent this season, much like Manchester United’s and an offer of £60million would be very difficult to refuse, especially if the player expresses a desire to leave. That amount of money could easily finance a replacement with money to spare to strengthen the squad even further.
It is highly unlikely that Sir Alex Ferguson will even entertain the idea of selling Wayne Rooney to Manchester City but he will certainly have to set his sights on some high profile signings to keep Wayne Rooney happy. Manchester United have been linked to Inter Milan midfield star Wesley Sneijder for quite some time now and signing the Dutchman could just be the world class injection that Wayne Rooney is looking for.
