Marc-Andre Stegen is the first team goalkeeper for FC Barcelona, a team on the rebound who is focused on returning to the top of the La Liga and also UEFA. As such, whenever one of their most important players such as their first team goalkeeper is seen not training the fans and footballer observers become quite concerned and that is definitely what is occurring at the moment with the news that he has injured his back.
The club is reportedly being very cautious with the treatment of their new goalkeeping addition whom they signed in the 2014 summer transfer window to give stability to their defence so they can focus on the attack.
Fans are already starting to get worried as there are only two weeks until the start of the new Spanish season and fans have no desire to have a repeat of the 2013-14 season when by the middle of the season there was a decided lack of confidence with regard to their goalkeeping position which led the team to look elsewhere for a goalkeeper.
A goalkeeper needs to be able to perform without fear as he will be diving all over the place, especially in the hyper-competitive La Liga which is considered by many to be the best footballer league in the world. As such, some fans and social media football observers expect that he might miss the opening games of the season as they do not expect the team to rush him back and risk further injury.
This is a setback for Marc-Andre ter Stegen who according to reports looked to have won the starting job as first team goalkeeper over fellow new signing Claudio Bravo and now the question arises as to whether he will be able to recapture the starting job if the other goalkeeper plays well at the start of the season?
The club says the injury is not serious but until Marc-Andre ter Stegen is practicing with the first-team again it is unlikely that FC Barcelona fans will be relaxed when talk arises about goalkeeping on their team.
