NBC has just announced that Mariska Hargitay will be returning to Season 15 of Law & Order: SVU. It was unclear whether the network and Mariska's team would reach a consensus on her returning to SVU, but it looks like they've made a deal since Mariska herself confirmed the news.
She took to Twitter to announce, "Happy weekend. It’s official. Season 15–I’LL BE BACK!” Season 14 just ended, and Mariska's return was left as an open-ended question.
Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay used to headline Law and Order: SVU, but ever since Meloni's departure, the show's ratings have decreased. They're still doing extremely well, and SVU has been a staple of NBC so long that it seems weird to think of the network ever cancelling the show. Either way, as long as they have Mariska, the show will likely continue.
Although Meloni's been expanding his resume since he's left SVU, Hargitay's largely stuck to the show, doing little else. Meloni will be appearing in next month's 'Man of Steel' as well as appearing in a guest appearance on 'True Blood'. Mariska, on the other hand, was last seen in a short in 2010 if you don't count SVU.
