It has been reported that director Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go) has exited the big screen adaptation of the classic tale Cinderella. Mark was set to helm the Disney movie but has now left the project following some differences of opinions over the direction of the movie.

It is claimed that Mark Romanek had a very dark idea about what he wanted to do with the movie and that Disney found that his take was too dark for what they wanted. This is not the first time that this has happened, after Mark left the movie The Wolfman for similar reasons.
Disney released the following statement:

Cate Blanchett is still attached to Cinderella
The Walt Disney Studios and Mark Romanek have parted ways on Disney’s Cinderella project. We are committed to moving the project forward and have begun the search for a new director. The team here at Disney respects Mark as both a director and a friend, and we hope to find something to work on together in the future.
The Cinderella movie will be based on the script that has been written by Chris Weitz and Aleen Brosh McKenna, with Cate Blanchett currently attached to the project. Disney will now be looking for a new director before pushing forward with Cinderella.
