There are a lot of movies being releaed that we are really looking forward to seeing, especially with the Oscar nominations creeping ever nearer and always being at the forefront of many people's minds. One film that we are looking forward to seeing is The Gambler, which stars Mark Wahlberg in the lead role and has already been receiving some positive reviews, as it edges ever closer to its released.
The Gambler is a remake of the 1974 movie, which starred James Caan in the lead role. The original movie centred around a literiture professor with a gambling problem, who has already fallen into a lot of debt with the mob. He manages to get a loan from his mother but, instead of clearing some of his debt, he decides to gamble it, losing even more, putting his life in the hands of the mob.
As well as starring Mark Wahlberg, the rest of the cast of The Gambler remake include names such as Jessica Lange, Brie Larson, John Goodman, Michael Kenneth Williams, Anne McDaniels, and Erika Jordan, among others. The Gambler has been directed by Rupert Wyatt, based on the screenplay that has been developed by William Monahan, with the movie set to open on January 1, 2015 in the US and May 1, 2015 in the UK.
There has already been plenty of talk about The Gambler, with many people suggesting that the project could receive some recognition from the Academy, with some Oscar nominations heading its way. We look forward to seeing if The Gambler lives up t the hype.
