Maura Tierney was reunited with her former ER co-star Julianna Margulies in The Good Wife when she made a guest appearance in the show's fourth season. It is one of only a small number of acting roles that she has taken on since being forced to pull out of the leading role in Parenthood due to being diagnosed with breast cancer.
The actress had surgery and chemotherapy for a tumor in her breast in 2009 and is currently in remission. The diagnosis came just one year after she left ER and she admits to being anxious about the thought of chemotherapy after initially hoping that surgery would be enough.
Maura starred as Abby Lockhart in ER for almost ten years. Her character was introduced as an OB nurse before joining the cast full time as an ER nurse. The character later completed medical school and when Maura left the show was working as an ER doctor.
With Maura back on screen, fans are hoping that this return is not short lived and she will be appearing in more shows soon. Her recent health problems seem to be behind her and she appears to be looking to the future. She is currently a spokesperson for Amgen and by sharing her experiences of chemotherapy she is hoping to help others in the same situation.
