While the miniseries The Bible has been a fairly decent piece of show making, with a well written script and some good acting, it has caused some very serious controversy. The Bible introduced us to the character of Satan, which looked a lot like President Barack Obama.
This has caused outrage among many people, who think it is not only disrespectful to the President of the United States of America but also comes across as racist. There have been huge question marks over the decision to have Satan as a dark-skinned character.
Back in 2004, Mel Gibson had Satan appear in his move The Passion of the Christ as an albino and he has now given his views on this new take on Satan. He said, "I believe the Devil is real, but I don’t believe he shows up too often with horns and smoke and a forked tail."
While there has been a huge debate over why Satan would appear dark-skinned, show executives say that they were certainly not trying to be racist at all, while historians have claimed that it comes from the ancient belief of light being good and dark being bad. This debate will continue to run for some time.
