When a Hollywood movie makes a lot of money, it is no surprise that a sequel gets the go ahead but, the 2013 movie Olympus Has Fallen only made $161m worldwide and still got a sequel. We already know that plenty of the cast of the original movie are returning for London Has Fallen and it has now been confirmed that Melissa Leo will reprise her role for the sequel.
While we are not completely sure why they feel a need to make a sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, other than making more money, some of you might actually be looking forward to the action thriller. London Has Fallen is set in London, where the world leaders are attending the funeral of the British Prime Minister, before a plot to assassinate the leaders is uncovered.
As well as seeing Melissa Leo returning in the role of Ruth McMillan, London Has Fallen will also see the return of Gerard Butler as Mike Banning, Morgan Freeman as Speaker Trumbull, Aaron Eckhart as Benjamin Asher, Angela Bassett as Lynne Jacobs, and Radha Mitchell as Leah. Meanwhile, Jackie Earle Haley has joined the cast in the role of Deputy Chief Mason.
London Has Fallen will see Babak Najafi taking over from Antoine Fuqua in the directors chair, while the script for the sequel has again been penned by Christian Gudegast and Creighton Rothenberger, along with the help of Katrin Benedikt. London Has Fallen will hit the big screen on October 2, 2015 in both the US and the UK.
