Being in a soap opera in the UK is a great way to start your acting career and when you decide to leave the show to pursue other acting adventures, there is always the opportunity of returning to the soap if things do not work out elsewhere, or at least you would think. Just as Michelle Keegan how that worked out for her.
British actress Michelle Keegan has played the role of Tina McIntyre on the hit soap Coronation Street for many years now but revealed a while back that she had decided to leave the show and try her hand at some other projects. It was first thought that the door would be left open for her to return but Michelle got the shock news that Tina was being killed off.
Keegan told OK! Magazine, "I was a bit [surprised] at first. They told me they would leave the door open initially and a few months down the line, the producers said they'd done a storyline conference and the writers had pitched a really good leaving storyline for me."
While Michelle was obviously upset that she would never get to opportunity to return to the show that gave her that all important break in acting, she did admit that, once she realised the impact the death would have on the show, she was in full support of it.
Keegan added, "I was shocked initially because leaving a soap and having a door open can be a safety net, but then I was told how it was going to affect the street's characters for the rest of the year and I was hooked!"
Now that Michelle Keegan has finally left Coronation Street, it will be interesting to see where her career goes from here.
