Emma Stone was initially approached to play the lead role of Sally Bowles in the Broadway production of Cabaret alongside Alan Cumming, but she had to turn it down due to scheduling constraints. She was actually signed on for Woody Allen's back-to-back movies, Magic In the Moonlight and his untitled film putting her opposite Joaquin Phoenix. So the role ended up going to Michelle Williams instead, which is not a downgrade considering Michelle is a multi-Oscar nominee.
Of course, Michelle ended up earning raves for her performance, but she's not ended her run in the acclaimed production. As such, Emma is reportedly in talks to replace Michelle as the 'flirtatious, intoxicating showgirl who steals the heart of an American writer visiting the seedy Kit Kat Klub in Berlin at the dawn of the 1930s.'
Although Alan Cumming arguably has the play's flashiest role, already winning him several awards, Emma will get her first opportunity to shine in theater with this role. It's her first time on Broadway, which she's said has been a dream of hers in the past. This will be her opportunity to show that she can do it all - movies, TV, and theater. We already know she can sing pretty well, since she got her start in Hollywood with a singing reality show. And if the deal works out, then she'll be beginning her second biggest musical endeavor with Cabaret, beginning November 11th.
Emma's also had a busy movie career in the past year, in addition to the Woody Allen movies and Cameron Crowe's untitled Hawaii movie with Bradley Cooper. In addition to that, she shot Birdman and wrapped promotion for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
