While there have been a whole host of video games being adapted for the big screen over the past few years, most of them have failed to live up to the expectations of the fans and have been considered pretty big flops. However, there is one video game that has gone on to have a very successful movie franchise and that is none other than Resident Evil.
The Resident Evil movie franchise has spawned five films to date, which have gone on to gross a combined total of nearly $1bn worldwide. With the last Resident Evil movie, titled Resident Evil: Retribution, going on to make $239m worldwide, it was no surprise that a sixth instalment of the hit movie franchise was going to get made.
There has been a lot of talk about Resident Evil 6 for some time now but it finally looks like the movie is going to begin shooting later in the year, with a view to a 2015 release date. It has been claimed that Resident Evil 6 will be the last movie in the current Resident Evil franchise, with Milla Jovovich standing down from her role as Alice. It will be interesting to see how long before a Resident Evil reboot gets the go ahead and who will be cast to replace Milla Jovovich as Alice.
As well as starring Milla Jovovich, it is expected that the rest of the Resident Evil 6 cast will include the likes of Wentworth Miller, Sienna Guillory, Bingbing Li, Shawn Roberts and Johann Urb. Resident Evil 6 is once again written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and we cannot wait to see what the final instalment has to offer.
