There have been a number of attempts in Hollywood to bring hit video games to life on the big screen but more often than not, these attempts fall well short of what fans were hoping for. However, there is one movie franchise which has had huge success over the years and is continuing to push on further.

Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil: Extinction
We have already had five Resident Evil movies, with the first being released in 2002, and now it seems that we are going to get a Resident Evil 6 film in the near future. Milla Jovovich will once again appear on the big screen in the role of Alice and it is easy to understand why the Resident Evil movies continue to be made.
The first Resident Evil movie in 2002 made an impressive $102m from a budget of $33m, before the sequel Resident Evil: Apocalypse made $129m from a $45m budget in 2004. That saw Resident Evil: Extinction hit the big screen in 2007, making $148m from a $45m budget, while Resident Evil: Afterlife made a massive $296m from a $60m budget in 2010. The most recent Resident Evil move, Resident Evil: Retribution was released in 2012 and made $218m from a $65m budget.

Milla Jovovich as Alice
That is an impressive total of $893m from a total budget of $248m, so it is no surprise that we are going to get a Resident Evil 6 movie, which will once again be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and is expected to be released on September 12, 2014.
