Mindy Kaling is the creator, writer, showrunner, and lead actress of The Mindy Project. There's a lot of pressure on her to deliver the goods, but the one advantage also present in her job titles is that she decides which direction the show is going in. She is the boss of the show, and she gets to run the entire ship, instead of accepting what other people tell her.
The second season of The Mindy Project got significantly better reviews than the first season, which was actually deemed rocky and uneven. Many critics and fans alike found the first season to actually be more of an exploratory season, where Mindy was trying to find the right balance of romance and comedy. The second season hit that balance, and was able to focus on increasing character motivations and character-driven humor and comedy.
One of the biggest reasons Season 2 was such a success was the Danny and Mindy romance. Instead of making it successful right from the get-go, Mindy managed to throw curveballs to the fans. Instead of making sure that Danny and Mindy found romance and stayed together, they ended up having to deal with several hurdles before they could go any further.
However, the Season 2 finale saw them reunited - again - but this time, will they stay together? Mindy teased some details through her Instagram, where she posted an image from the Season 3 premiere script, titled 'We're A Couple Now, Bitches.'
The screenshot from the script shows that Mindy also wrote the episode herself, instead of anybody on her writing staff. No doubt, it will carry all the trademark aspects of the show that we've come to love, including humor and irreverence.
