There has been a lot of talk about the future of Rookie Blue recently, with a lot of fans questioning whether we will see Missy Peregrym and co. returning for a seventh season in 2016. There have been a lot of suggestions that the show could be cancelled after the sixth season next year and showrunner Tassie Cameron says that they are still unsure about the future of the show.
Cameron explained, "That question is still up in the air. It's great to hear the networks are interested in keeping us around, it's such a vote of confidence and means an awful lot. But then there are a lot of things to consider. There are the actors and there are contracts ... I don't know. I think it's still up in the air. It's a conversation we'll be having in the next couple of weeks."
A lot of fans of the show were shocked to discover that Rookie Blue season five was only 11 episodes long, rather than the usual 22 episodes but, do to contractual issues, it seems that they have decided to split season five in two, making an 11 episode season five, which aired this year, followed by an 11 episode season six next year.
Cameron added, "We thought these episodes were all going to air in one summer, so we weren't planning to make viewers wait; we didn't try to torture people. Having to do 22 episodes in one go, it gave us an opportunity and a little more space and time to actually plan stuff out."
