Mumford and Sons have become renowned for their alternative folk sound within the music industry and, while this has been proving hugely success for the band, they have claimed that they would like to take a new direction. Mumford and Sons have admitted that they would love to have a go at doing rap and have even been seeking advice from Hip Hop legend Jay-Z.
Lead singer Marcus Mumford was talking to Rolling Stone Magazine, when he explained, "We definitely had a graduation to go through with the sound that we had through [debut] 'Sigh No More' to 'Babel', and that sound to us feels satisfied. And that's a sound we'll always play."
He added, "The world has been really supportive of those songs, but then there's other sounds we want to make. Like, hip-hop. We really want to rap. We've just got so much to say - saying it through a melody doesn't really work for me. We've been talking with Jay-Z about it, you know. It's gonna be a fresh experience for our band."
It seems a bit unusual for a band with such a proven sound to try their hand at something so different to what they are used to, but it is also a very brave move. It Mumford and Sons can get Jay-Z on board for a collaboration, their rap project will certainly have the backing to possibly make it a success.
