Beautiful Monster singer Ne-Yo has been praising the US singing competition The Voice, for putting talent ahead of appearance. Ne-Yo, who is set to appear on The Voice as a mentor on the Cee Lo Green team, admitted that he was impressed how The Voice manages to focus solely on how someone sounds, unlike the other television singing competitions which also take looks into account.
Ne-Yo explained, "What I dig about The Voice is that, okay, it's a singing competition, but it is a singing competition that focuses on the important stuff, which is talent. It's not about what the person looks like or marketability and all that silly stuff, it's about talent.” Ne-Yo then went on to talk about the times when your voice was all that mattered.
He added, “Before there were music videos and the internet and all that stuff, all you had was the voice, and if you couldn't get it with that, then you couldn't get it." You can catch Ne-Yo giving advice to the wannabe singers in his role as mentor on The Voice, which airs every Monday night on NBC at 8/7c.
