Elysium has to be one of the most anticipated sci-fi movies this summer, and with the under-performance of 'Pacific Rim', all eyes will be on Elysium to see the box office potential of original science fiction films.
Elysium probably won't have the same kind of uphill battle that Pacific Rim did, largely because stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster are established stars and the budget is reportedly in the $90-100 million range as opposed to $250 million+. Early reviews for Elysium have also been positive, and the anticipation online is reaching fever pitch.
As the promotion has been ramping up, a new featurette for the film has been released online. It goes slightly more in-depth into the polarity between the two worlds, the third-world on Earth and the extreme luxury on Elysium. As Matt Damon explains, "Earth, a hundred and fifty years into the future, has become a third world planet. There's scarcity of resources, it's become overcrowded, and you get the feeling that the borders have just become porous. Everybody's hustling in some way to just get by."
'Elysium' releases on August 9th and in addition to starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, it also stars Alice Braga, William Fichtner, and Sharlto Copley.
