The New York Fashion week is one of the biggest events on the fashion calendar and got underway in New York, with the Faces of Fashion, which focuses on the models who have undergone cosmetic surgery. It is the first time that this has taken place, much to the disapproval of show founder Fern Mallis.
Fern was chatting to the Daily News, when she stated, "Fashion week is about fashion ... it's not for people to decide on what face-lift to get." However, the models who have taken part in the show, along with surgeon Dr. Ramtin Kassir, insist that it is a positive step forward.
Model Joseph Druckman explained, "We're his works of art. I wouldn't even let my family take pictures of me before the surgery. It really upped my confidence. I don't exist in any family photos before the age of, like, 20."
Dr. Kassir insists that he does not go out to make his patients look plastic but believes that if the surgery is subtle enough that people cannot instantly tell and it boosts the patients confidence, the all the more reason to do it. Whether the New York Fashion Week is the right place to show this off is still in debate but, with the first Faces of Fashion out of the way, we expect it could become a permanent feature.
