Nicholas Hoult and Elle Fanning are two of the rare actors that can pull off blockbusters as well as independent movies, and it’s exciting to think of a collaboration involving both of them. According to Variety, Hoult and Fanning have signed on to ‘Young Ones’ alongside Michael Shannon and Kodi Smit-McPhee. The director/writer of the film is Jake Paltrow, the less famous but no less talented sibling of Gwyneth Paltrow.
The story is a being touted as a neo-classic sci-fi film, and is set in a future where water is a scarce resource and humanity has come close to destroying itself as a result. Sound familiar? Well, it’s following the recent trend of dystopia films, and focuses on a young 14-year-old boy who has to use his wits to survive in this harsh world.
One of the producers, Michael Auret, added, "Jake's engaging tale of hope and courage in a neo-realistic dystopia will have universal appeal."
This cast should be ample proof of the quality of the project, with Hoult being in-demand thanks to the strong performance of Warm Bodies last weekend. Elle Fanning has also been busy the last couple of years, balancing her indie films with Super 8 and the upcoming Maleficent. Michael Shannon is one of the best actors in the world, and is perfect in everything he does. His stock will definitely rise after playing Zod in the upcoming ‘Man of Steel’, and his presence will add a lot of weight to the film.
