There were quite a few raised eyebrows when it was revealed that Nicki Minaj would be one of the new judges on the show American Idol, as it is not exactly something that you would expect from the star. However, Nicki admits that she likes to do what is not expected of her and was encouraged to take the job by Lil Wayne.
Talking about the difficulty of agreeing to be on the show, Minaj explained, “I knew it was going to reach the masses and it was something that wasn't expected of me and I always like to do things that people wouldn't believe that I would do.”
She added, “The producers were really sweet and I asked a lot of people I really cared about if I should do it and the last person that I asked was Lil Wayne. He said 'Absolutely do it' and that was my last thing where I found peace with it, so I did it, I signed on the dotted line.”
Nicki Minaj is set to appear as a judge on American Idol for the first time, along with fellow new judges Mariah Carey and Keith Urban as well as the ever-present Randy Jackson, when American Idol Season 12 premieres on Fox on January 16.
Do you think the new look American Idol judging panel will be as good as the last one?
