When it was agreed that Anne Hathaway would have her hair cut short, for her role in Les Misérables, the job of hacking the locks off went to one Nicola Sloane. Nicola has now spoken about the event and how Anne cried while it was taking place.

Sloane explained the Daily Mail, “The director said 'I want it to look really vicious we need you to be hacking at it with a knife'. We blu- tacked a razor blade against a knife blade and I held the two together and you have to saw away at it that's the only way to get it off. She was all right and I had cut all the front and this little voice went 'cut'. I thought 'oh she's had enough' so I moved my hands away and then she burst into tears when she felt how short it was at the front.”
She added, “It was just before she got married there's no wonder she bawled her eyes out - she had been growing her hair for three years. Then I hacked it all off and made her look terrible. Anne later sold her locks in order to raise money for charity. I gave it back to her and there's this thing called 'Locks of love' in America where they auction off celebrity's hair and she did that to raise money for charity so a lot of good came out of it.”

Anne Hathaway in Les Misérables
Anne Hathaway has been nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance, which almost makes up for the lost locks.
