Nicole Kidman is on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, and she talks about the early years with Tom Cruise, how her career changed after the divorce, how fame and gossip affect her, and how she balances work with family.

Talking about her marriage with Cruise and how her career changed post-divorce, she says, “it was like, ‘I’m here and I’m clutching onto your arm, and it all feels a little overwhelming and really strange. And I was shy. Deeply shy. I didn’t feel comfortable at all. But I felt very comfortable at home.”
She adds that it got more stable after the divorce, as “I started to do what I’ve been doing since I was 14, with some gravitas. Having your work be the basis of fame, that’s a far more stable feeling.”
She admits that she’s no affected by fame, saying, “I don’t really celebrate fame because I get enough attention. I’m willing to step aside. And when I work, I work. Wholeheartedly.” When asked of her name being in the news due to the very public break-up of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, Kidman says that her turn in the gossip world was “very, very fleeting. I’m not caught up in any of it. It’s not really a part of my life.”
Finally, she adds that there is no such thing as balancing her family and work, and she still gets panic attacks because she misses her family so much. “I’d love to say that it’s easy, but it isn’t. I miss them so much when I’m away. And so I limit the amount of time away through no other reason than I just love, I love them. But that’s my personality. I get 3 A.M. panics because I’m so attached.”
