Nicole Scherzinger is hitting back at Cheryl Cole after Cole described her first meeting with Scherzinger as ‘awkward’. In Cheryl Cole’s book, called ‘Cheryl: My Story’, she talks about her first meeting with Scherzinger, saying it was ‘really embarassing’, and that Scherzinger came up to her and sang her ‘Promise This’ to her face. Cole said, “I swear to God the woman sang the whole song, to my face. It was just so awkward.” She added that it was as bad as someone going up to Britney Spears and singing ‘Baby One More Time’, saying, “Can you image how weird that would be?”
Scherzinger has now opened up about the comments and in an interview with Fabulous magazine [via Daily Mail], mentioned that she had not read Cole’s book and wasn’t sure what to think. She said, “I’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt and hope that she would only have spoken highly of me because I’ve not spoken poorly of her.'
When asked if Cole’s account of what happened during their first meeting was true, Scherzinger said, “No. No. The story is I met her once at The X Factor and I wanted to make her feel good. I said I’d heard her song on the radio and I think I sang the words "promise this". But I really don’t know any lyrics after that. And then that is made out to be something else and I don’t understand why. I don’t understand why anybody would do that. It’s been blown out of proportion and it’s silly.'
Cole is reported to have been jealous due to the fact that she was fired from the US relaunch of the X Factor, and then replaced with Scheringer after the first month. Her comments may have been in jest, but let’s hope the ladies make up before it descends into a full blown feud.
