In a match that lasted over 4 hours, Novak Djokovic showed he is becoming a truly unstoppable force with even the greats such as Rafael Nadal helpless in trying to stop him.
Novak Djokovic took the championship 3-1 on sets against his great rival Rafael Nadal beating him 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1 to win his first U.S. Open championship after tasting disappointment in the final on two different occasions before.
The odds were heavily stacked against Rafael Nadal going into this match having not beaten him all year, losing all six games they have played against each other. On hitting the winner Novak Djokovic fell to the ground flat out with an expression of clear joy. After the event he said "Maybe it is the best match I played this year, I stepped on the court believing I could win. I didn't give him any comfort. I didn't give him any room."
