On the heels of footage that was screened yesterday, the first full-length for the highly anticipated 'Elysium' has been released today. The film stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Alice Braga, and is directed by Neill Blomkamp [of District 9 fame].
The advanced footage that released yesterday [which was said to be ten minutes long] screened to very positive advanced buzz, and although there are already several post-apocalyptic films coming out this year [including Oblivion, After Earth, and Catching Fire], Elysium's got one of the strongest pedigrees as well as one of the most interesting plots.
Set in a future where the haves and the have-nots are separated by more than wealth, the rich stay on a space station named Elysium where the poor are kept on Earth, where the toxic waste threatens to eradicate any vestiges of good health. Damon's character, Max, agrees to a mission that could bring 'equality to these polarized worlds'.
Elysium comes out on August 9th, and in addition to Damon, Foster, and Braga, the film also stars Sharlto Copley [who previously collaborated with Blomkamp on District 9]. From looking at the footage from the trailer, the film looks incredibly promising and could end up being the breakout hit from August.
