Broadchurch actress Olivia Colman has revealed how the cast did not touch any alcohol during the filming or the airing of the hit ITV series. Olivia says that the cast worried about drinking too much and accidentally revealing the identity of the secret killer.
Colman explained, "We all stayed on the soft drinks at parties as nobody dared to cough up that information. You would have let down the team if it had come out. It was nice to remind ourselves that as a nation we are fairly intelligent viewers and we like intrigue." As for a second season, Olivia added, "I thought maybe we should leave it alone. But then I thought Chris’s idea sounded really good.”
Meanwhile, writer Chris Chibnall says that he already had his idea for a second season, before ITV had even agreed to it, “I mentioned to ITV that if people liked it, there was another very different story we could tell afterwards. I’m really thrilled we’re going to tell that story, too," he said.
As well as starring Olivia Colman, Broadchurch also starred former Doctor Who actor David Tennant and the two have both agreed to return for a second run of the show. Filming for the next season of Broadchurch is likely to get underway early in 2014, with the show airing on ITV not long after.
