Singer Olly Murs claims that he would have been nominated for a Brit Award much sooner than he has been, if he had not been a contestant on The X Factor. Olly has been nominated for two Brit Awards this year, Best British Male and Best British Single, and he says it's about time too.
Murs explained to Digital Spy, "For the success and sales that I've had, I would have probably warranted a Brits nomination last year for 'Best Male'. Even with my album success and its sales, I would have probably been nominated for 'Best Album' by now. But being from The X Factor that's what you get unfortunately - it's a bit of a pain."
Olly Murs can take a little of satisfaction from the fact that, while he only finished runner-up on The X Factor in 2009, he has had a much more successful music career than anyone else on the show that year.
Meanwhile, Olly Murs is heading over to the US, where he will try to break the US market, meaning that he will be leaving his role as co-host on The Xtra Factor, with Rylan Clark being named as one of the favourites to succeed him.
The Brit Awards take place at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday, February 20.
