One Direction are currently considered the biggest boyband on the planet and are enjoying global success and domination of the music charts. However, the beginnings did not look so great for the individual members of One Direction, who almost never made it.

Zayn, along with Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, auditioned for The X Factor as a solo artist. Zayn made it through to the boot camp section of the show but walked off stage during a dance routine and threatened to give up on his dream there and then.

However, Simon Cowell clearly saw something in Zayn Malik, as he persuaded him to return to the stage and just try his best. Although Zayn Malik didn’t make it to the judges houses as a solo artist, he was put together with the other four members to become One Direction. You all know the rest from there.
