Are One to Watch section is a little bit special today as, rather than bringing you a young and talented star that you might not have heard of we are actually bringing you somebody who has been talked about a lot over the past few weeks. Lupita Nyong'o may well be 30 years old but she is only just making an impression on the Hollywood scene, following her first big movie role.
With the Oscars taking place later this evening, it only seems right to have an up and coming, Oscar nominated star as our One to Watch. Lupita Nyong'o put in a fantastic performance in her role in the movie 12 Years a Slave and it was no real surprise when it was announced that she was nominated for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Oscar at this year's Academy Awards.
In the course of her career, Lupita Nyong'o has been around the movie making industry for many years, doing a lot of different behind the scenes jobs, as well as the occasional small acting role. Landing the role in 12 Years a Slave was a huge brea for Lupita Nyong'o and after her brilliant performance and Oscar nomination, there is no doubt that we will see her in many more big movies over the coming years.
Lupita Nyong'o stars alongside Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore in the movie Non-Stop, which opened earlier this week, while she has also been linked to a role in the movie Who Shot the Sherriff, which is currently in the scripting stage. There is no denying that Lupita Nyong'o is a hugely talented actress with a very promising future in Hollywood.
We wish Lupita Nyong'o the best of luck at the Oscars tonight, as she goes head to head with Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle), Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), Julia Roberts (August: Osage County), and June Squibb (Nebraska). The 86th Academy Awards take place tonight.
