Tatiana Maslany is up for a Critics Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series, going up against such heavyweights as Claire Danes [Homeland] and Keri Russell [The Americans]. Maslany's nomination is for her performance in the sci-fi show 'Orphan Black', which has slowly been gaining critical acclaim and higher ratings.
When Orphan Black first started airing [on BBC America], Maslany's performances as multiple clones started gaining attention. Over the episodes, Maslany managed to channel different characters and make each one of them believable without losing a step. Just for that alone, she deserved a nomination.
While she's certainly up against some big-name actresses, including last year's winner Claire Danes, just the fact that she received a nomination is a huge boon to the show. There's little chance of her actually winning, just because of the crowded field and because Claire Danes is pretty much a lock for a repeat. Hopefully by the time the next couple of Critics Choice Awards come around, she'll have gained enough momentum to manage a win.
In addition to competing against Claire Danes and Keri Russell, she's also up against Vera Farmiga from Bates Motel, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, and Elizabeth Moss for Mad Men.
