Different actors and actresses like to take different paths and routes through their career but, ultimately they all would like to star in a big blockbuster movie on the big screen. British veteran Judi Dench began her acting career on the stage as a theatre actress, before proving herself as one of the best movie stars in the business.
During her career, Judi Dench has been nominated for no less than six Oscars, while winning the Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in Shakespeare in Love. Judi has again been nominated for an Academy Award at the 2014 Oscars but she has admitted that she was once told that she would never star in movies.
Dench explained, "I was told very early on that I would never make films and I settled for that. I was a theatre actor and films didn't come into my thinking or anything. It has all changed very much since Mrs Brown (for which she was nominated for an Oscar in 1998). So now I do more films than I do work in the theatre. So an Oscar is something I never considered."
Judi Dench has been nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role category for her performance in the movie Philomena but she faces stiff competition on the night. The other nominees are Amy Adams for American Hustle, Cate Blanchett for Blue Jasmine, Meryl Streep for August: Osage County and Sandra Bullock for Gravity.
The 86th Academy Awards will take place on March 2.
