The Oscar Pistorius trial continues today and today we have heard from some more key witnesses to the case. Oscar is standing trial for murder, after he shot his girlfriend Reeve Steenkamp multiple times, ultimately killing her. Oscar has claimed that he thought Reeva was an intruder and shot her before realising that it was actually her in there.
We have already heard from a number of witnesses and today we heard from the first doctor on the scene after the shooting. Johan Stipp is a doctor who lives just down the road from Oscar Pistorius and her came rushing to the scene after hearing the screaming on the shooting. Dr. Stipp says that he found Oscar Pistorius crouched over Reeva Steenkamp's body praying for her not to die.
I went nearer and as I bent down I noticed a man on his knees on the left side. He had his left hand on her right groin and his right hand second and third fingers in the mouth I remember the first thing he said when I got there was: 'I shot her, I thought she was a burglar. I shot her'. Oscar said: 'please let her live, she must not die.' He was praying, saying he would dedicate his life to God if she did not die."
One key piece of information Dr. Stipp did give, was that he saw the light was in on the bathroom, while Oscar Pistorius previously stated that he was too scared to turn the light on until after he had shot Reeva Steenkamp and realised what he had done.
The case continues.
