Pablo Zabaleta has been the model of consistency for Manchester City since signing for them in 2008. Through constant managerial changes and a maelstrom of changes in playing staff and controversial incidents, he and Vincent Kompany have arguably been the only 2 players who have been consistent for Manchester City through this period. However, is Zabaleta still guaranteed a starting place?
City signed a number of defenders in recent years including Martin Demichelis and Majita Nastasic. This has made Zabaleta a peripheral figure at times, although he has started the majority of City's premier league games this term. Pablo Zabaleta will also have to contend with the return to form and fitness of Micah Richards, who will provide stiff competition for a starting place.
Yet the feeling prevails that Zabaleta will keep his place, largely because of his consistency. Whilst Richards has drifted from the sublime to the ridiculous and has been plagued with injuries, Pablo Zabaleta has been ever-present and even contributed some crucial goals such as the goal that clinched the premier league title in the 2011-12 season.
Furthermore, Pablo Zabaleta is still only 28, and is not even in the peak in his career. He is also a creative outlet for city, supplying a useful number of assists from his forays forward. There are no real weaknesses in his game, which could make him a very useful player for City in years to come.
