British actor Paul Bettany has confessed that he is done with playing religious characters in his movies, after his latest portrayal as a priest in the aptly titled movie Priest. Paul has previously played a priest in the movie The Reckoning, while he has also played a monk in The Da Vinci Code and an Angel in Legion.
Bettany explained, "Unless Priest 2 happens, this is absolutely the last movie with any religious undertones I'll ever do because it's all I get asked about." He added, "For me, it was the chance to be that kind of stoic American, cowboy hero but in a totally new urban setting. So, that's why I did it. And remember, I'm British, meaning, I'm starting from a butch deficit so it was a great opportunity to play this role."
The Scott Stewart directed movie Priest also stars Cam Gigandet, Lily Collins and Stephen Moyer. Priest has currently made over $75 million worldwide. Paul Bettany can next be seen on the big screen, when he appears in Margin Call, which is set to be released on October 21.
