When there is a television series that has been running for many years with a lot of the same stars appearing in it all the way through, it is no real surprise when one of the stars decides to direct one of the episodes. That is exactly what has happened with the hit The CW vampire television series The Vampire Diaries, as Paul Wesley has taken on the directing duties for an upcoming episode.
Paul Wesley has been one of the stars of The Vampire Diaries from day one and it has been no secret that he has a keen interest in directing. With the Paul Wesley directed episode due to hit our screens soon, Paul has opened up about moving behind the camera and taking on the directing duties.
Wesley explained, "That has sort of infused a new level excitement in my life. You have to really try not to be a narcissist. You have to be objective enough to say, ‘OK, I’m going to move on. I’m not going to do that take again because I didn’t like how my hair was off in one angle.’" It seems that Paul also needed to rely on the actors much more than you may have thought.
"It’s funny, people think the director is the leadership role, but I needed [the actors] so badly. I needed them as much as they needed me. I needed them to be there and nail their performances. And they all came in, knew their lines, and nailed it for me. I was so impressed. There was a little bit of hazing and I was entirely expecting that. But they were much more respectful than I would have imagined, or I would have been to them," he added.
It seems that Paul Wesley certainly did a good enough job to impress his fellow The Vampire Diaries cast mates, as Ian Somerhalder recently spoke out to praise his directing skills. The Paul Walker directed episode of The Vampire Diaries will air on The CW tomorrow (April 17) at 8/7c.
