The news of Sanjay Dutt's conviction sent shock waves through the Bollywood film industry. Priyanka Chopra has opened up about her thoughts on Dutt's jail sentence, and says she hopes he gets some leniency because of his family.
The Supreme Court announced its verdict on Thursday, sentencing Sanjay Dutt to 5 years in prison for his involvement in the 1993 Bombay blasts. He is being asked to surrender within four weeks, and it was certainly a somber scene for him and his family.
Chopra has worked with Dutt on 'Agneepath' and the upcoming 'Zanjeer' remake, and at the VMA Awards in India, she said, "Sanju sir is an important part of the industry. I have worked closely with him, so I am definitely feeling bad. But I hope the judiciary gives him some respite considering his family." When asked about the fate of the 'Zanjeer' remake, Chopra says, "I don't know what will happen to the film but the shooting is almost complete."
'Zanjeer' stars Chopra, Dutt, and Ram Charan Teja, and was originally set to come out sometime this year. Whether it actually will or won't come out, in light of recent events, is still to be seen.
