FC Zenit Saint Petersburg has seen their reputation brought to shame, thanks to a manifesto from a section of their racist fans. The manifesto called for the club to get rid of black players and also stated that homosexual players should also be avoided by the club.

It read, “We are not racists, but the absence of black players in the Zenit lineup is an important tradition that underlines the identity of the club, and nothing more. We are against the inclusion of representatives of sexual minorities in the Zenit team.”
The manifesto continued, “A big part of the championship is played in pretty tough weather. In these conditions it is sometimes difficult for the technical players from warm countries to display their footballing talents to the full degree. We want players closer to our soul and mentality to play for Zenit.”

FC Zenit Saint Petersburg have since hit out at the manifesto, stating that the club will continue to buy and sell players based on their ability on the football pitch and not their race or sexual orientation. They state that the club “does not uphold archaic views.”
