It is well over a year now since the news broke that Oscar Pistorius had been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, which took place on February 14, 2013. The trial of the case continues today and there has been plenty going on in the court case, including tears from the Paralympian following talk of the injuries to Reeva Steenkamp.
During the trial today, one witness claims that she heard a woman screaming between gun shots on that Valentines Day night last year, which goes against the claims from Oscar Pistorius that he did not know it was Reeva Steenkamp in the bathroom, mistaking her for an intruder.
The defence lawyer for Oscar Pistorius rejected the claims, insisting that Reeva Steenkamp could not have screamed due to the brain damage caused from the shot to her head, "We will have experts state that there was serious brain damage after the shot to the head, that it would not have been possible for her to scream at all. With the head shot, she would have dropped down immediately." This led to Oscar breaking down in tears, wiping them away with a handkerchief.
Meanwhile, the prosecution lawyer insists that the head shot was the fourth and final shot and that Reeva Steenkamp would have been screaming from the first three shots. The defence then suggested that the noise they were hearing was Oscar Pistorius breaking the door down, rather than the gun shots, while the screams were those of Oscar, realising he had shot his partner. The witness refused this, saying the bangs were too quick in succession to be someone breaking a door down.
The trial continues.
