It was way back in 2001 that Renee Zellweger was cast in the role of Bridget Jones for the movie Bridget Jones's Diary, which was heavily criticised by fans of the book at the time. However, Renee was unaware of this, something which would be almost impossible today, due to the changes in social media, which the actress has given her views on.
Zellweger explained, "I was naive to it at the time. I was not aware of that conversation, which is nice, by the way, because you never want to enter into things considering millions of opinions. I'm sure you're right. I mean, everything was easier before social media pretty much, wasn't it? I mean in terms of staying away from information that isn't necessarily healthy for you to know."
As well as talking about how social media has changed things and the way people get the freedom to criticise on a much bigger scale, Renee Zellweger also went on to talk about reprising her role os Bridget Jones for the new movie Bridget Jones's Baby. Renee says that the talks had been ongoing for a while, but that it was a no brainer for her to make the return.
Zellweger added, "A nice reunion with my friends and a character that I love and a town that I love? 'OK!' There had been conversations about it for a while. It wasn't a sudden decision. It wasn't a proposal that came one day and then prompted a decision to return to filming."
Bridget Jones's Baby is set to hit the big screen on September 16 in both the US and the UK.
