Ever since Pharoahe Monch laced the monstrous beat of Simon Says, he has solidified a place in the heart and soul of true hip hop heads. While he is not quite as famous amongst the mainstream, true lovers of rap know and love Pharaohe Monch, and are eagerly awaiting his new album release. Eminem himself recently praised the rapper for his work on the Organized Konfusion track, Bring It On, stating that “…that rhyme right now would kill most rappers...”
Having worked with artists such as Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Pharoahe is known for his highly stylized lyrical execution. His last album, W.A.R. (We Are Rengagades), was also his first independent album release. It’s themes included the struggle to be original while maintaining a place in the hip hop industry, battling the industry’s constant demands to conform, and the problems of being a black male in American society.
is next album, P.T.S.D. will be a follow up to W.A.R. Pharoahe recently told MTV that it will be a more emotional and personal album, and sprouted from his experience with depression. His depression was compounded by his asthma. The album will be a metaphor for the soldier from W.A.R., and how he deals with the aftermath of his combat with the industry.
Many are eagerly awaiting the return of the great ruler, the Pharoahe Monch himself. They can only hope that he will overcome his personal and emotional trials in order to produce some of the deepest and most profound lyricism that the hip hop world as ever seen.
