For fans who were actually worried about Ashley Madekwe's future after she got axed from ABC's hit soap 'Revenge', they should never have worried. Ashley's good looks and talents have already gotten her cast in yet another series regular role, this time for WGN's 'Salem'.
Salem will be WGN's first scripted television show, and according to Deadline, "set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts, it explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials."
Ashley will reportedly play Tituba, who is Mary Sibley's right hand [Mary Sibley being the most powerful witch in Salem], and she also supposedly hasn't aged since she's been separated from her master. The plot will no doubt deal with the desperation, the causes of it, and what has resulted in the meantime.
Salem marks yet another show about witches, following Lifetime's Witches of East End. Obviously, witches have become the new 'It' topic in Hollywood, following years of television shows about vampires, werewolves, superheroes, and spies. It's also following the trend of more networks venturing into the scripted television business, even networks such as WGN and E! who have previously only dealt with reality shows.
